The advantage is that these people a really deep into Spamassassin and other tools and pay far more attention to spam than you might want to. They usually have multiple servers which can buffer your incoming email should your server go offline. The disadvantage of course is that it costs money and you are trusting someone else with your email. But if you have money and you just want the spam to go away, these services might be what you are looking for.
