When Apache Geronimo is installed it provides a single virtual host where all the services and applications will be listening. This is, all services and applications will be listeting on all the available IPs on the server.

Virtual hosts provide a way to insolate some applications and make them listen on a specific IP. This functionality is equally valid when you have multiple host names aliased to a single IP.
