Kafka supports batch compression of a message set. Batch compression is important as individual messages may not have sufficient redundancy to enable good compression rations. Batch compression is supported by allowing the value field of a message to hold a compressed message set in the format defined above with the message's attributes field of the message set to indicate the compression codec used.
