What OSGi runtime does Karaf use?

Karaf can use either Apache Felix Framework or Eclipse Equinox.
You can easily choose which framework you want.

Note that Apache Felix has a number of subprojects related to OSGi and Karaf embeds a lot of those subprojects, whether you choose Felix Framework or Eclipse Equinox has the underlying OSGi runtime.
