Does Flex cost money?

No. The Flex SDK is free for both personal and commercial use. You can compile your projects using the Adobe mxmlc compiler which is included with the Flex SDK download. Some of the tooling costs money.

Yes. Apache only hosts open source projects.

What is the road map for Apache Flex?

There is no official The roadmap for the Apache Flex project but many of the current goals have been listed in the Apache Flex goals question on this page. There may or may not be an official or unofficial road map at some point in the future. The discussion on this topic has been discussed at length and the consensus has generated two responses. If you want something in Flex start working on it or discuss it and get others involved to work and / or vote on it. The other response has been to get out a parity release with the Adobe Flex 4.6 SDK and then revisit it thenAdobe's support for Flex is here. Apache projects believe in letting the committers decide what features to add and bugs to fix. In a sense the committers themselves have their own roadmaps. By participating you can become a committer. It's best to ask on the mailing list to see what people are working on.
