Update of November 2022: 

  • While we strive for a regular release, we recognize that our pattern has been to make a release when and if we have the capacity to do so.  
  • Looking back, we seem to have averaged one release per year, with an uptick in 2022 covering three releases.  
  • We should edit the following text that was created during the project's incubation period and the related confluence pages to be more accurate.  


Policy as adopted by the Project Management Committee (PMC) :

Release branches are created every two months at the beginning of the following month from the changes that were merged by the last day of the previous month.

Steps to sign a release:

As a release manager, I believe you should have created signing key by following Apache documentation (https://www.apache.org/dev/openpgp.html#key-gen-generate-key)

In this example  I am considering 0.6.0-incubating release branch and current directory is /home/user1.

2) Clone release branch with command "git clone -b 0.6.0-incubating --single-branch https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator-fineract.git apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating-src"

2) Make sure build is happening and all integration tests are passed by following steps defined in readme.md

3) Create a binary directory with release version. In this example the directory name is /home/user1/apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating-binary

4) Build war file and copy into binary directory. Extract LICENSE, NOTICE, DISCLAIMER files from fineract-provider.war and place them in binary directory.

5) Now crate a tar file of binary directory with below command tar -zcvf apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating-binary.tar.gz apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating-binary. You can see apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating-binary.tar.gz file in /home/user1 directory.

6) Now move to apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating-src and remove all git configuration directories/files. Remove bin, catalina.base_IS_UNDEFINED, build directories from fineract-provider directory

7) Remove gradle wrapper jar file from apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating/fineract-provider/gradle/wrapper

8) Now create source tar file with command tar -zcvf apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating-src.tar.gz apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating-src. Now you can see apache-fineract-0.6.0-incubating-src.tar.gz file in /home/user1 directory.

9) Next step is to create detached signature, checksum with MD5 and SHA with the following commands
