Also note that starting hive 0.12, wildcards can also be used to retrieve columns. For instance, if you want to retrieve all columns in HBase that start with prefix "col_prefix", a query like following should work:

CREATE TABLE hbase_table_1(value map<string,int>, row_key int) 
STORED BY 'org.apache.hadoop.hive.hbase.HBaseStorageHandler'
WITH SERDEPROPERTIES (
"hbase.columns.mapping" = "cf:col_prefix.*,:key"
);

The same restrictions apply though. That is, the key of the map should be a string as it maps to the hbase column name and the value can be the type of value that we are retrieving. One other restriction is that all the values under the given prefix should be of the same type. That is, all of them should be of type "int" or type "string" and so on.
