The Apache Atlas frameworks provide plug points for components that augment the capability of Apache Atlas.  These component are typically provided by third parties, although Apache Atlas may use its own frameworks to provide basic examples of the components and optional capability.

There are three frameworks in plan for Apache Atlas:

• The Open Connector Framework (OCF) - providing standard functions for providing connectors to data and metadata repositories.
• The Open Discovery Framework (ODF) - providing management of metadata discovery and data analytics components.  The ODF executes these component in predefined pipelines as new data sources are identified.
• The Governance Action Framework (GAF) - providing metadata components that support governance enforcement engines such as Apache Ranger, Apache Knox and Apache Sentry.
