Committer invitation (no ICLA filed)

To: [invitee email]
Cc: private@nifi.apache.org
Subject: Invitation to become Apache NiFi committer: [invitee]

Hello [invitee],

The Apache NiFi Project Management Committee (PMC) hereby offers you Committer membership to the project. These privileges are offered on the understanding that you'll use them reasonably and with common sense. We like to work on trust rather than unnecessary constraints.

Being a Committer enables you to more easily make changes without needing to go through the patch submission process. Although you will be granted commit access to project repositories, you will be expected to adhere to project best practices when committing. This link has great resources on expectations and what the process will be like: <http://www.apache.org/dev/new-committers-guide.html>.

Being a Committer does not require you to participate any more than you already do. It does tend to make one even more committed. You will probably find that you spend more time on the project.

Of course, you can decline and instead remain as a contributor, participating as you do now.

A. This personal invitation is a chance for you to accept or decline in private. Either way, please let us know in reply to the [private@nifi.apache.org] address only.

B. If you are accepting, the next step is to register an Contributor License Agreement (CLA) with the Apache Software Foundation if you have not already:
    1. Details of the CLA and the forms are found through this link: <http://www.apache.org/licenses/#clas>.

    2. The form (text or PDF version) provides instructions for its completion and return to the Secretary of the ASF.

    3. When you transmit the completed CLA, request to notify the Apache NiFi project and choose a unique Apache id. Look to see if your preferred id is already taken at http://people.apache.org/committer-index.html. This will allow the Secretary to notify the PMC when your CLA has been recorded.

When recording of your CLA is noticed, you will receive a follow-up message with the next steps for establishing you as a Committer.

We look forward to your response!

Once the prospective committer has accepted and the ICLA is on file the vote result thread permalink from private can be found using: https://mail-search.apache.org/

And once that permalink is known and the preferred user ID is known the account request form is here: https://id.apache.org/acreq/pmc-chairs  If the name isn't in the list be sure to click the link on the bottom right.

Commiter Onboarding

To: private@nifi.apache.org, [new committer]
Subject: [committer]: What to do now that you're a committer
[committer], as you know, the ASF Infrastructure has set up your committer account as the username '[committer username]'.

Please visit the link and follow the instructions to set up your SSH, mail forwarding, etc.: <http://www.apache.org/dev/#committers>

Ensure you're subscribed to the Apache NiFi Developers mailing list dev@nifi.apache.org. We also recommend subscribing to the Users and Commits mailing lists at users@nifi.apache.org and commits@nifi.apache.org

We recommend being very familiar with the Apache NiFi contributors guide: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NIFI/Contributor+Guide

You have commit access to specific sections of the ASF repository, as follows:

Apache NiFi has various resources at:
 - Source Code for Apache NiFi https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf/nifi.git
 - Source Code for Apache NiFi Maven Plugins https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf/nifi-maven.git
 - The NiFi web site source: https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf/nifi-site.git

And you have access to the general "committers" repository:

To commit, ensure you use https in your git remotes, or if you've been pulling from a mirror like github, you'll need to add a remote such as:
$ git remote add apache https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf/nifi.git

If you have any questions during this phase, then please see the following resources:

  - Apache developer's pages: http://www.apache.org/dev/
  - New committers guide: http://www.apache.org/dev/new-committers-guide.html

Naturally, if you don't understand anything be sure to ask us on the NiFi dev mailing list. Please note, documentation is maintained by volunteers and hence can be out-of-date and incomplete - of course you can now help fix that.
