Post-event Report

We heard about the event through social media and identified it as a potential opportunity to actively engage with Apache contributors and open-source enthusiasts in India (Bengaluru being the IT hub).

We (Priya Sharma  and Aditya Sharma  ) traveled for around 1076 KM from Indore to Bengaluru after a whole month of gathering designs, taking approvals, designing the swags and giveaways, looking for vendors, and getting things arranged in this short span of time.

The day started at around 10 AM and to 6 PM with a 30 min lunch break. Thanks to the organizers for serving us delicious food during lunch.

We had printed a standee with the image of all the top-level projects which remained the show-stopper for the entire time. Though we believe we should have taken one for the podlings as well.
Nevertheless, people were so excited to identify what Apache projects they have used and were fascinated by the fact that ASF is the house to so many great projects.

We got around 250 pamphlets printed which vanished within no time, thus assuring us that people were interested in knowing more about the ASF.

We had a wide range of people visiting us from students to veterans and from users to PMCs and ASF members.
Most people spent around 5-10 minutes (some even more) which was really great as it demonstrated their interest in knowing and finding out more about Apache.
People at our booth were startled to know about Apache’s presence in a tier 2 city (and that we have come this far to exhibit at the booth).

Some of them were inquisitive about how the ASF houses its projects and how ASF is able to sustain itself even after making no money from the projects.

We were delighted to see that many of the users were keen to know how they can start contributing.
We helped them understand the different ways in which they can contribute (apart from code).

One request/suggestion kept popping up for a local meetup group that could hold regular meetups and provides ground for other activities centered around Apache projects.
(ALC Bengaluru would be an ideal fit)

We also had the opportunity to meet several of our Apache peers who are actively contributing to various Apache projects.
Some of them were even speakers at the event and were pleased to find the Apache booth at the event.

We are grateful to Mohammad Asif Siddiqui, Brahma Reddy Battula, Navendu, and Joshua for their time with us at the booth.

All in all, it was a great experience, and we are looking forward to more participation coming from India in the future.

Please see below for the list of tasks that we need help with from volunteers. Note that we are also happy to have more than one volunteer in the booth at the same time, so you don't have to be alone.

• The booth does not need to be covered 100% of the time during the event but it would be good to have people there during the main breaks.
• The aim is to use the booth as a meeting point to connect with others during the conference.
