  • Town Halls
    • Great first Town Hall. Jon Haddad spoke about Performance Tuning, Josh McKenzie gave a project update. Replay here.
    • Will be a monthly series for end users to gather and share/learn about Cassandra from use cases to project updates. Currently 4th Thu of the month at 9a PT. Polling community for the best time.
    • How can you help? Help us promo the town halls. We will share details of each in the Events Slack channel. You can share with users directly (i.e. customers) and/or via socials.
    • What should we focus Town Halls on?
      • When are things ready for prime time?
      • Since 4.0 major releases are ready for production. 80 percent of users are on 3.11 or older. We need to get people thinking 4.1 is the place to be. This is a thing we can try to promote
      • We have an aggressive upgrade cycle, need to get people on the latest major
    • How can people be a part of the meeting?
      • Could we survey folks on what version they are using?
      • Can we have topics and thought starters?
      • Should we survey attendees on experience? On what topic they want to talk about?
      • Ideation tools?
    • More awareness around what’s new in newer versions. Why you should upgrade.
      • Awareness around ACID, SAI
      • Use case of the month? (i.e. have users submit their use cases to be considered as a feature. Could translate into a blog, case study + social to 1) get more PC content and 2) give us concrete content to organically promote Town Halls.

  • Contributor meetings
    • Discuss upcoming things that aren’t hardened - i.e. open CEPs
    • Pay attention to Dev threads, and if we can gather up opinions and have conversations on those threads on the meetings.
    • Bring Town Hall topics back to dev threads and/or contributor meetings. Bring more outside-in perspective to dev. How do we really touch on user pain points in the Town Halls and then bring them back to the Dev ML/contributor meetings? We need more outside/in perspective with the dev community.

  • Our mission.
      • We need a mission for this group to rally around - and here it is!
  • Get people thinking about 5.0
  • 3.0 and 3.11 will EOL when 5.0 GAs.
      • Need to tell the upgrade story (stick - versions will EOL)
      • Carrot - new versions are bulletproof and stable
    • Patrick - drive and design blog on EOL

  • Actions:
    • Speakers’ Bureau - we are creating a speakers bureau, which is a repository of spokespeople and topics we can use to submit to third party events. Having representatives at key industry events can help us raise awareness. Please fill out the speaker bureau form if you’d like to be a speaker, or share with someone you know who is a good candidate.  https://forms.gle/FGTqt1wMDs8jvHKW7
    • Planet Cassandra - take a look at the new site; submit content, solicit folks to submit user stories.
    • Review meetup playbook & provide feedback
    • Let hugh@constantia.io know if you’d like to host a community, or would like to attach to another community’s meetup.
    • If you’re interested in how we’re using our “home” channels and leaning more into Discord as a channel for users, take a spin thru our  Discord onboarding experience and feel free to provide feedback.
