How to Use the @CloudStack Account

If you want access to the Twitter account, please ping private@cloudstack.apache.org. You must be a committer or PMC member to be granted access to the account. Odds are, however, you only want to post one or two things, so there's no need to grant access - just ask on marketing@cloudstack.apache.org to have something promoted.

You'll also want to read the social media guidelines before posting.

Ideally, you'd send a note to the marketing mailing list with the following:

Subject:  /[PROMOTE]: Event Name Goes Here

Event time, date, details, and link to sign-up page/website promoting the event.

Suggested tweets. (e.g. "Hey, don't miss the upcoming CloudStack Meetup in Death Valley, CA. /@randomguy will be presenting #foo on 30 February 2020.")

Link to blog post that can be used on Facebook to promote event.

Any additional details needed.

If you don't get a follow up, ping one of the Twitter account holders (currently Chip and David).

If you're totally new to Twitter, read A Beginner's Guide to Twitter on ReadWriteWeb. Feel free to ask any questions you might have about Twitter on the cloudstack-marketing mailing list.

How to Promote Apache CloudStack on Twitter

  • Follow the @cloudstack account and help amplify (RT) tweets from the primary account.
  • Follow other members of the CloudStack community and help amplify their tweets about their work on CloudStack, CloudStack-related events, etc.
  • Watch for tweets about CloudStack and respond to questions and requests for help with CloudStack.
  • Monitor the #cloudstack hashtag, and use it when you post CloudStack-related items.
  • Keep it positive!

How Not to Promote Apache CloudStack on Twitter

  • Don't "go negative" by criticizing other communities or vendors.
  • If someone reports a bad experience with CloudStack, offer help – but don't criticize them for reporting their findings. Gentle corrections of fact are OK.
  • Don't be boring! There's more than life to CloudStack, and you'll get more attention on Twitter if you talk about a variety of subjects and RT other folks' messages about things other than CloudStack.
  • Don't be NSFW. Keep it PG-13, or better.
  • No labels
