Major Discussions

In this section we look at major discussions that have happened on the CloudStack mailing lists. This is by no means a full summary of all discussions on the lists, but we try to hit the highlights that are relevant to the larger CloudStack community.

Example Code for GUI

Mike Tutkowski asked last week for example code for help in adding fields to the GUI for Add Disk Offering. Wei Zhou shared some code for recent changes, and Isaac Chiang also shared a few tips on making a selector instead of a text field. Pranav Saxena also provided some sample code that should help other folks in adding UI elements.

Proposal: Linux Native VXLAN Support for KVM

Toshiaki Hatano has provided an initial draft of a feature specification for native VXLAN support on KVM for CloudStack. So far, no feedback on the proposal.

Grace Hopper Open Source Day?

Noah Slater has forwarded a call for mentors to participate in Grace Hopper Open Source Day to the dev@ mailing list:

Now in its third year, the Grace Hopper Open Source Day event is seeking applications from open source projects who wish to provide mentorship in
contributing to open source projects to the attendees of the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference. Applications close at 23:59 PM Pacific Standard Time on May 31, 2013.

CloudStack Planet

• CloudStack University by Sebastien Goasguen: At Apache CloudStack we recently started an initiative to organize our content into learning modules. We call this initiative CloudStack University. Everyone is invited to participate by contributing content (slides and screencasts), suggesting new learning modules that are needed and even creating exercises and assignments. School fun ! As we were discussing the initiative on the mailing list we started by looking at our existing content: slideshares, youtube videos and thought about organizing them into a CloudStack 101 course. This is still a work in progress that requires everyones participation to make it a great resource.

• CloudStack Storage Configuration Guide by Mike Tutkowski: Mike posts some content contributed to the wiki by SolidFire.

• Linux Tag Berlin, May 22-25, Sebastien Goasguen will talk about CloudStack and Big Data. There will also be a CloudStack booth at the expo.
• Bucarest JUG May 30th, Sebastien Goasguen will talk about CloudStack and Big Data. Announcement yet to be posted.
• Open Cloud Day in Zurich, June 11th. Sebastien Goasguen will talk about the Apache Cloud ecosystem.
• Build a Cloud Day Paris Paris, June 19th.
• ShapeBlue CloudStack BootCamp being held June 22/23 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
• CloudStack San Francisco Users Group Event being held at SAP Labs in Palo Alto CA. on June 27th.
