Discussion Topics
- Title: Ranking Drift During Lucene Upgrades (Parveen Saini)
Description: Short walkthrough of issues we saw during a Solr 5 to 8 migration in a production ads retrieval system. Although queries worked, ranking behavior changed in subtle ways due to scoring semantics and other internal Lucene changes. I’ll share how we detected the drift using side-by-side query replay, candidate overlap checks, and score distribution comparisons. The same approach was later reused during a Solr 8 to 9 migration as well.
